Good-bye Winter, Hello Spring!

After a winter with cooler temperatures than usual, we are excited about the signs of spring seen on the property of Serenity Views!  There is quite a lot of bird activity in the trees these days with sightings of Varied Thrush, Robins and Flickers. Bald Eagle at Serenity ViewsThis bald eagle was seen recently sitting on a perfect perch overlooking the lake.  We are eagerly awaiting the arrival of the hummingbirds and ospreys!

Staying at Serenity Views gives our guests the opportunity to observe nature in many ways.  Whether you choose to hike along the shoreline of the lake, or on one of the many trails in the area, or just sit and relax on the deck of the Studio Suite or the Camping Cabin, you will enjoy the sights and sounds of nature.

Using a canoe or kayak to cruise along the shoreline of the Arrow Lake is another great way to enjoy nature.  Bring your own, or rent one of our watercraft.

Our hope is that our guests have a relaxed, enjoyable holiday, and make the most of their time at Serenity Views and the beautiful Village of Nakusp.

Camping Cabin in the WinterAs we look back on 2013 and prepare for the coming year, it is clear to us that we enjoy meeting new guests to Serenity Views, and anticipate the return of former guests.  Serenity Views is open for business during all seasons – even in the winter.  There are winter activities in the area for all to enjoy, including cross country skiing in several different locations as well as downhill skiing at the Summit Lake Ski Hill.  After spending time in the outdoors, the local hot springs will warm you up!

We are now receiving inquiries for the summer months, so if you have specific dates in mind, please contact us and we will try our best to accommodate you.

We look forward to the adventures that 2014 will bring, and look forward to meeting new and old friends!

Flooding in Alberta

We have been watching with concern the recent major flooding in Alberta.  Our thoughts and prayers are with those who have been affected by this disaster, and hope that life will return to a normal state soon.

Because of the flooding in Alberta, we have had several inquiries from our guests concerning the conditions in our area.  The Nakusp area has had lots of rain in the last few weeks, but there have been no flooding concerns.

Serenity Views was built on the hillside overlooking Upper Arrow Lake.  The level of the Arrow Lake is controlled by a dam at each end – the Revelstoke Dam on the north and the Keenleyside Dam near Castlegar on the south end of the Arrow Lake.  The level of the lake does fluctuate, but residents are aware of the changes and are prepared for these changes.  Any buildings must be built 100 feet above the high water line, so our lodgings are never in danger of flooding.

Deer on roadway When travelling to the Nakusp area, you should be aware of the road conditions along whatever route you choose to take.  The Drive BC website is great and covers the whole province.  It includes ferry information as well, which is essential to check when travelling to Nakusp.

As well as road and weather conditions, we urge our guests to be aware of wildlife.  Deer are quite often seen along the highways leading to Nakusp, so please be watchful and cautious.

We wish all our guests a safe journey to Serenity Views!

Do you enjoy fishing?

Staying at Serenity Views has many benefits.  As well as the quietness of the property and the great views of the lake and mountains, there is the advantage of being able to enjoy the shoreline on the edge of the beautiful Upper Arrow Lake.

If you enjoy fishing from shore, this is the place for you!  Whether you are staying in the Camping Cabin or the Studio Suite, the shoreline is just a short walk down a forested pathway where you can fish on the secluded rock beach.

Below is a picture of a Dolly Varden which was caught by recent guests who were staying in the Camping Cabin.  Thank you Sherry and Lenard for sharing your picture with us!

There are numerous species of fish in the Arrow Lake including rainbow trout, bull trout, kokanee and whitefish.  Trout usually range from 2-7 kg. but have been known to reach 12 kg.  Note to all fisherman:  this fish was released back into the lake!

Our final snow … maybe?

Serenity Views has seen a whole range of weather in the past week:  snow, rain and sun; but we are hopeful that spring will soon be here!  There was a robin in our grass this morning and he is also hoping that spring is here.

Spring mountain and lake viewThis photo shows that there was snow overnight in the mountains across the lake, which will disappear soon as that blue sky is indicating!

On the waterfront promenade in Nakusp there are also signs of spring with crocuses poking their heads out of the ground.

Spring is a wonderful time to visit Nakusp.  Staying at Serenity Views gives you the opportunity to walk through the forest on the pathways on our property and along the lakeshore where you will definitely see signs of spring.

If you are looking for a quiet, peaceful place to have a getaway and enjoy nature, consider Serenity Views!
